February 26th to March 2nd

TED Talk of the Week
This TED Talk explores at an interesting way to motivate students to do their math homework.

Thank you!
  • Ryk and Cynthia for organizing an amazing Kasey Perry’s PD.  We all came away with a better understanding of how to support students after the mini lesson.
  • Yena and Dana, for supervising JK&K students during the DRAGON Dialogue on Tuesday.
  • Layne and Alana for organizing the 4A students to perform at the DRAGON dialogue.  Our parents seemed to have fun being active!
  • David G, Judy, Mun, and Scott for working with our swim students and getting them ready for the swimming event this week.

ES Photo Schedule
On February 26th the ES will have photos in the ES Science lab.  Here is the photo day schedule. Thank you Stacy for organizing this!

MakerSpace Information from the John, Dan, and Jocelyn
We have been very busy planning for the MakerSpace and are really excited for it to come in August! Currently, we are putting together a presentation to give everyone updates on the program's plans and get your feedback: with your continued input, we know we can make this an amazing space that will be used to its utmost potential. We will give our presentation March 2nd during part of the Division meeting.

In the meantime, an exciting opportunity has come up and we really hope you can join as it will help generate ideas and build community. John have been taking with Aidan Hammond, head of BHA's MakerSpace and he has a wealth of knowledge, is super nice and let Jocelyn and John see his space in December. Seeing the space and talking with their students was invaluable and has given us a bunch of ideas for next year.

He loves visitors and has extended the invitation to KISJ teachers for Wed, Feb 28th at 4:10 - 5:30! We already have 13 teachers going. If you aren't on the list the John emailed out, and want to go please let him know ASAP.

The plan is as follows:
10 minute walk to BHA

20 - 30 minute tour including:
  • Explanation of how they use their space
  • Projects and products students have been working on
  • Their resources: tools, 3D printers, laser cutter, wind tunnel (that they built)
15 - 20 minute meet and greet
Introduce ES teachers from BHA and KISJ to each other to promote community and give everyone more potential resources. Aidan has at least 6 BHA Junior School teachers (he said it was a pretty even spread of ES grade levels) who will meet up with us and are really interested in exchanging ideas (not just MakerSpace stuff) with us.
