April 23rd to 27th

TED Talk of the Week
This TED Talk looks at a serious challenge our students will have to overcome as we prepare for the future.

Thank you!
  • Renee and Sun, for an amazing book week!  Our ES community was engaged in fun book related activities and great read-alouds throughout the week.
  • Jessica and Gloria, for organizing the book exchange in the ES.  It is impressive how many books were donated!
  • All of our guest readers, the students enjoyed having you all visit and share your love of reading!
  • Nurse Karen, for keeping us updated on the air quality this week.  Let’s hope the air next week is better.
ES Division Meeting Effectiveness Survey
The purpose of this feedback is for us to identify our strengths and areas to strengthen. Your feedback will be shared at all levels and/or included in upcoming WASC reports. All comments will be published in full unless an individual is named in the comment. These questions are based on the Danielson Professional Teaching Standards Domain 4 , Standards 4-6.

DRAGONS Week Information
The purpose of our DRAGON Week is for students to build on what they have learned in class by participating in special curricular activities.  Throughout the week, each grade level will participate in special trips and students will be engaged in projects that will expand their understanding of the curriculum and Jeju.  Each grade level has a different theme for the week and planning is coming together.
Our ES DRAGON Week is May 28-June 1st. Deadline to submit event forms is April 20th, however If teams need additional time, please see Cynthia and email Joseph the tentative schedule for the week. Team leaders will complete the parent letter and share with Cynthia and Joseph Shin by May 7th.
Specialists will be asked to cover some duties, HRT classes throughout the week and help chaperone field trips.  Grade Level Leads will coordinate with Specialists (and other Grade Leads if a Specialist needs to cover multiple grade levels) to make sure the amount of time needed is as fair and balanced as possible. Specialist will be asked to cover duties, HRT classes and help chaperone field trips.

Parent Report Card Committee Volunteers Needed
As an ES we are looking for ways to improve lines of communication with parents.  Part of this communication revolves around ensuring assessment and reporting is not a one way communication. Ryk and I have been working on a several ways this can be accomplished and we would like the input of all grade levels.  Ideally we would like to have 1 representative from each grade level to be on the Parent Report Committee. We are asking for 1 or 2 hours of your time next week.
If you are interested please let me know by Monday April 23rd.
