Updates From Mareena
Focus on Responsibility:
It’s break time, and you are heading to the deli for a coffee when you witness an incident between two students. As students are walking to the field, one boy trips another. The second child stumble to the ground. He gets up and pushes the other student.
How should you deal with this incident? What responses are available to you?
Electives
Q4 teacher choices need to be added to the spreadsheet by Friday, February 22nd. The parent letter will be sent Friday, March 1st. Sign up will open on March 5th and close on the 7th. Rosters will be shared on March 12th, and Q4 electives begin Tuesday, March 26th.
Family communication
A weekly family communication will be sent from the ES office to all parents. We’re also testing out how Seesaw may work for school communication for the remainder of this year. If you’re not yet familiar with Seesaw, there will be a session during the IT PD on March 25th.

Grade 8 Request - SLL
Dear Elementary students and staff,
The Grade 8 students have been visiting Cambodia as SLL trips for over 5 years, and this year, as part of the service we will be doing there, we have decided to donate bamboo toothbrushes. It is very important that we purchase bamboo toothbrushes because compared to plastic toothbrushes, bamboo toothbrushes are more eco-friendly and would have less negative impacts to the environment.
We are hoping that all of the elementary students will also contribute to our campaign by also getting bamboo toothbrushes from the links provided by this website: https://kisjbamboodonation.netlify.com/
If everyone in our school community buys 3 bamboo toothbrushes, then we will have more than enough toothbrushes for the Cambodian students to get at least one toothbrush. The reason why we’re giving the bamboo toothbrushes to the Cambodian students is that first of all, it is eco-friendly and would naturally break down We are giving away toothbrushes to help Cambodian students to have clean mouths. There will be a box for the toothbrushes in the elementary office, and it must be dropped off by March 6th at the latest. We hope that many of you will participate in our campaign! Sincerely, Grade 8 students

GEC Maker Faire: May 18th 1:30 - 4:30 at Branksome Hall
John Chin and Dan Hallwood made this video to promote the GEC Maker Faire. For a good laugh, feel free to play it for your students and/or email it to them. Feel free to retweet if you'd like.
The Faire will include work from all 4 GEC schools. All ages can attend but only students G3 or above who sign up by March 13th can display projects or teach people how to make things. John went last year and was really impressed with all the projects he saw and it was super fun as well.

Google Certified Innovator
The Google Certified Innovator Program helps teachers launch a transformative project through an academy, mentorship, and ongoing PD. Google has recently announced academy dates, and is trying to grow the program in Asia with a cohort in Singapore this September. Personally, this program has been hands-down the best PD I've ever been a part of. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Updates From Mr. Vento
It was with great sadness that we received notice earlier this week of the passing of Dr. Richard “Dick” Krajczar. As the Executive Director of the East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS) for the last 23 years, Dr. Krajczar has been crucial in the advancement of international education within the East Asia region and he will be missed by many. EARCOS has set up a memorial tribute on their webpage where friends and colleagues can contribute messages of condolences.
Please find attached the 2019-20 KISJ Academic Calendar. This is the same calendar that was shared last week but the key in the bottom right corner was updated.
