TED Talk of the Week
I was reminded of this TED Talk when I went into Jordanna’s class on Monday and saw students practicing a power pose as part of a mindfulness brain break.
Thank you!
- Jenni, Lindsay, and Tessa for talking our Battle of the Books students to BHA and winning the competition! I heard our team exhibited wonderful sportsmanship and were very respectful.
- Lindsay and Eric for volunteering to be the ES Faculty Council reps for 2019/20. I look forward to seeing you continue the progress that Dan W. and Elaine made this year.
- Esther, Sarah, Theresa, Mareena, for presenting at the Parent School Communication talks this week. You are providing clarity around emotional safety for our parent community.
- Scott, Judy, Mareena, Dave, Madeleine, Rhys, Amber, and Allan, for organizing and running the ES Swim Meets this week. Our students had fun and built team spirit!
- Francis & Dan for taking the 5th-grade choir to Seoul this weekend. Best of luck as students participate in this fun event that showcases their talents.
- Rhys, Eric, Jason, Jocelyn, Kurt, and Allan, for coaching and helping organize the ES basketball events this week.
- Sarah Ko, Sara, Eric, Patricia, Dan W, Elaine, and Ryk for volunteering to speak with Dr. George during her visit to KISJ. Your insights and candid answers helped her gain a better understanding of our school and how we can continue to improve.
Communication in the ES
Last Friday the ES had our Faculty Appreciation Dinner at South Bounder. This was an event that allowed us to gather, relax and enjoy some food and drinks. There were several ideas that were discussed during the evening that we are going to pursue and could bring about some fun changes in the ES. In the interest of transparently, the Total cost for the event, including transportation, prizes, and child care, was 2,000,200. I would also like to congratulate our lucky draw winners:
Dana - Kat will make a dessert for Dana
John Elliot - A $75 Gift certificate to iHerb
Min - Grand prize winner, a $100 gift certificate to South Bounder

Away for PD
I will be out next week for Cognitive Coaching PD. Continue to use the behavior reporting, and contact ES office for urgent help.
Afternoon Dismissal
If teachers are holding students back after 4 PM for any reason/length of time, you must notify the office. The office will update parents.
After spring break, we will enforce stricter afternoon dismissal expectations. Any student not picked up by 4:20 will be brought to the ES office. This applies to students waiting for Hagwan buses, as well.
In the case of poor air quality or rain, bus students will be kept on the bus. All other students will be dismissed as usual. This information will be shared with parents, as well. The field continues to be off-limits for students after school, with the exception of bus students.
Snack - March 13, 2019
JK-K snacks will be delivered downstairs. G1-3 afternoon snack will be delivered to ES Office by 1:30 PM. TAs please work to help get snacks to classrooms.

Updates From Mr. Vento
Many thanks to everyone who took the time to speak with Dr. Marilyn George during our WASC visit this week. We look forward to sharing a summary of her reflections and recommendations as soon as they become available. Her guidance and suggestions will be a valuable resource as we begin the process of focus group meetings and self-study for the purpose of school improvement.
Thank you to our KISJ Faculty Council for meeting with Dr. George after school on Thursday. The minutes of this meeting will be shared with our community in the coming days.
A special thanks to our Central Control Team for making sure that the entire campus was clean and in proper working order. This was immediately noticed and remarked upon by Dr. George.
