March 12th to 16th

TED Talk of the Week
This TED Talk is a fun talk about where camels come from.

Thank you!

  • Sara for organizing Donuts with Dads for ES students.  This was a great event for our parents to connect with their children.
  • Allan, Francis, Matthew and Robin for creating an amazing backdrop for the Shrek musical!  I can’t wait to see the performances next week.
  • 5th grade team for helping our parent community feel emotionally safe about the upcoming 5th grade overnight trip to Udo. The presentation you created more than addressed their concerns and questions.
  • Cynthia, Sara, Theresa, and Neyda for helping our parents understand the Faculty and Dorm Life Guide at the DRAGON Dialogue
  • Francis for giving our parent community a sneak preview of a key musical performance at the DRAGON Dialogue.

ES Photo Retakes
On Monday, March 12th the ES will be retaking some yearbook photos. The reasons why we are having retakes are because some students were out of uniform, did not sit up straight, or their hair was messy.  Here is the schedule for retakes.  We will only be using Science Lab B.  Your TA will bring the students who need retakes to the lab while HRT stay in the classroom with the rest of the students.

Shrek Information (from the musical team)
The weekend rehearsal is this Saturday March 10 and will be from 10 am to 2 pm. Thought we would let you all know if there is any homework loads or sluggish kids.

Faculty VS Student Swim Meet (from the Aquatics Department)
On Thursday, March 15th, KISJ will be hosting the 5th Annual Student vs Faculty Swim Meet!!! Yippie! Please note, the races are "just-for-fun" and don't require a "competitive" swimming ability so PLEASE come-out and support our KISJ family in this event. I have provided details about the event below:
The Swim Meet will be hosted in the ES/MS swimming pool
Races will begin at approximately 16:15
The Swim Meet will end at approximately 17:30 - 17:45 due to our dorm-students "dinner-time" requirements
Please wear an appropriate swimsuit (no cotton-shorts or bikinis) and if you have them, please bring your own goggles and swim-cap (I will have extra swim-caps and goggles if you need to borrow some).  A towel, water-bottle and warm change-of-clothes are also recommended.  Faculty, please sign-up for as many events as your-lungs-desire. Students will be allowed to sign-up for two events. Here is the link to sign-up for events:

Parent Expectations When Visiting KISJ
Please take a moment to identify some of the things parents should be aware of when visiting KISJ

Dorm Commitment
As you know, spending time in the dorms is a way for you to fulfill your faculty commitment in the 2017-18 school year. For more details, please reference this presentation shared by Shawn Vento.
Remember to keep track of your commitments by filling out this sheet: ES Faculty Commitment sheet. Please indicate on this spreadsheet how you plan to fulfill your seasonal commitment, and in which season. If you indicate that you will fulfill your commitment in the dorms, Shawn will contact you directly.
Please feel free to contact Shawn Vento or Nicole Dines if you have any questions, and I hope to see you in the dorms!

Schedule Feedback
Thank you for giving feedback about the schedule.  The main concern was for students to have time for morning meeting, especially in JK-G3.  We also had a tie between Wednesday and Thursday activity days.  I will take all of this information into consideration when creating the schedule for the 2018/19 school year.

Dr. Schimmer is facilitating professional development for ES and MS school faculty from 1:30-3pm on Sunday March 4th.
