August 13th to 19th

TED Talk of the Week
The TED talk for this week is one I like to watch at the beginning of each school year.  It reminds us all why we are in education.

Thank you
Thank you all for creating a welcoming and emotionally safe environment for our students to learn in.  Together, we have taken the 1st steps towards an amazing year of learning! Below are some samples of the messages you created to welcome students on the first day of school.
Fun Facts About our New ES Colleagues
Here is a list of fun facts about those new to the ES this year. Feel free to try and identify who matches with each “fact”.  I will post the answers next week.

Electives Information
On Tuesday we ask that all G1-3 HRT meet their students in the Lunchroom at 2:55 and walk them to the hexagon, then help them find the correct Electives teacher.
Here is the document that John created at the end of last school year detailing the whole electives program. In that document you can also find the number of electives you are required to do per year.

Blog Expectations
Blog should be live by August 18th. Email Bonnie your blog link and put it on the ES Faculty/Class List 2018/2019

All Homeroom Teacher’s blogs need to include:
  • “The Week Ahead" section that tells what topics will be covered during the upcoming week. This must be aligned by grade level and updated weekly.
  • Pictures that are updated at least biweekly (do not include student names).
  • “Meet the Teacher" page with some background information about the teacher.
  • Links to all Specialist teachers blogs.
  • Homeroom daily schedule (timetable) linked to blog.
  • Homeroom Teacher’s Blogs need to be updated weekly no later than Sunday. When your blog is updated send an email to parents and Mareena.  Parent email addresses can be found on PowerSchool or the ES Faculty/Class List.
All Specialist Teacher’s blogs need to include:

  • Pictures that are updated at least biweekly.
  • “Meet the Teacher" page with some background information about the teacher.
  • Specialist Teacher’s Blogs need to be updated biweekly no later than Sunday. When your blog is updated send an email to parents and Mareena.  Parent email addresses can be found on PowerSchool or the ES Faculty/Class List.
Classroom Blogs/Seesaw
A reminder that classroom blogs should be updated and sent to Mareena and Bonnie by August 18th. If you are already using Seesaw or interested in considering this option with your students (with the potential to replace your classroom blog with this), please just click here to indicate your interest.Seesaw is a platform designed to be for student portfolios

Duties
Regular duties start on Monday. Please note the inclement weather duty schedule will be added to the bottom of the document. Review the procedures for your section (we will be adding section specific agreements very soon!) and review the alternate procedures for weather related changes. A reminder that an email and announcement will come from Mareena if we need to utilize the inclement weather procedures.

Emergency Folders/Procedures
Your emergency binder should have been delivered today, if you didn't collect yours yet. Please hang the extra paper map next to your door. All classrooms should have an evacuation map at the door - see April in ES office if you need one. Notify Mareena if you do not have the materials you need (All clear door tag, evacuation procedures, list of class line up numbers, and red/green card with class list) or if you have questions.

Important Changes to the School and Dorm Life Guide
Here is a message that was sent to all parents.  Please read over it so you also know the policies.

Substitute/ Leave Information (from Scott Brown)
Emergency Sub Plans
Your emergency sub plans should be submitted by August 27th. These are very important because life is unpredictable.  First, complete your emergency sub plan using the templates linked below:
Sub Plan Template
Second, go to the link below and select your division, then find the folder with your name. Then upload your emergency sub plans. Make sure your emergency sub plans encompasses all periods and times that you are responsible.
*If you teach in more than one division then make sure your lesson plan has this explained clearly. You only need to upload to one folder in the emergency subs plans.
Request for Leave
As the previous year the following forms must be completed prior to taking any leave. Please read the form carefully and complete every aspect of the form.
Elementary School
Middle School
High School
Remember to include a completed sub plan using the templates below that is required for any leave.
Wellness Reservation Calendar
Faculty are allowed to take one wellness day per semester. If you choose a day that follows a weekend in semester one then you must choose a wellness day that occurs midweek for the next semester.
In order to prevent 25 people from choosing the same day we have developed the Wellness Reservation Calendar which limits the amount of slots each day. The Wellness Reservation Calendar operates on a "first come first served" basis for reserving your days.
*If there is no available slots for a day then the day is unavailable or has already been taken. Also, remember to complete the leave request procedure for your Wellness Days as you would any other day.
