Classroom Libraries
Common Understandings
We will be having a short stand-up meeting on Friday at 1:30 in Science room B to talk about our common understanding of classroom libraries. We have guidelines for our classroom libraries in this document. You are welcome to read this before the meeting. Here is an important guideline ..."The number of books to be leveled varies, but a general rule of thumb falls around the 60% of your total books being leveled. The other 40% can be grouped into series, author, genre etc." You are, of course, welcome to start designing your classroom library as soon as you can, but please following these guidelines.
New Books.
We have boxes of new books for you classroom libraries sitting in the ES Science Lab B. Each grade level is sitting on a different table. They are yours to take as soon as you get your classroom library ready for stocking. Team leaders, please coordinate the dividing up of these books according to your orders.
New Cabinets and Baskets
Workmen are currently making a new cabinet/cubby for each class to help hold the new books in your classroom library - 6 cubbies x 2 storage baskets per cubby.
The new baskets are currently sitting in the new Grade 3D classroom. Everyone, please collect 16 of these baskets at your earliest convenience to get them out of this teacher's classroom.
Labels for Baskets
To help you create a library with genre labeled boxes, I have attached a PDF of genre labels. If you fill in this doc with how many laminated labels you want, I can have those ready for you ASAP.
Scanning Classroom Libraries
A new initiative. We have purchased a new portable ISBN scanner. It plugs into a computer usb port. We have prepared all the spreadsheets and will ask you and your TA's to scan your classroom library books so we have a data base record of all books. We only have 1 scanner so maybe we can aim to have that task completed by the end on Q1. More on this later.
Important Phone Numbers
Here is a document you can print and have by your classroom phone. If your phone is not working let the IT department know.
