November 12th to 16th

TED Talk of the Week
The “TED talk” this week is a recommendation from Dana.  It is a sensory path designed by a school so “students can take a little wiggle break.”

Thank you
  • Judy, Nicole, Jessica, Scott, Allan, and Shawn, for coming out to the Students VS Faculty swim event.  This was a great way for us to build community and have a blast.
  • Mareena, for covering in K class this week. Your willingness to step in is always appreciated.
  • Sarah Ko and Sara R for presenting the two parent sessions on Saturday.

Communication in the ES
This week Sarah Ko and Sara R hosted two parent sessions about “Alternatives to Hogwons.” The presentation focused on listening and sharing ideas and strategies that are student focused.  They introduced a new polling app that allowed parents to give information in real time. This helped to facilitate two way communication.

Let’s Chat
This week I will be at the BKK hiring fair from Wednesday afternoon to Monday but I am still able to fit in two times for us to chat: Monday @ 1:00 and Tuesday @10:30.

School improvement
We need your help as we continue to look for ways to improve our programs and schedule in the ES.  I would like to create a small committee of individuals who like to work with schedules. The goal of this committee is to look at feedback and examine our current schedule and see how it can be optimized to meet the needs of our students and teachers for the 2019/20 school year.  If you are interested let me know by November 16th,

ES Perception Survey (from Dr. Odum)
If you could, please take some of your (very valuable) time and complete the faculty perception survey HERE. Your responses on this survey provides valuable feedback that informs KISJ's formal school improvement process. With that in mind, I would additionally invite you to provide written comments in the survey whenever appropriate. Thank you again for taking time to do this, and for all you do for your students

From The Instructional Coach
One of my roles as Instructional Coach is to support you to help you achieve your professional goals. As such, over the course of this quarter, I would like to work collaboratively with each of you to best achieve that outcome.
Here are some ways that I can be of service to you. You may also have an idea of your own that we can work with. Every process would begin with a planning conversation which would take approximately 10 minutes. Here are some ideas to get you started. I could: Sit in during a part or all of a lesson and collect some data about your specific professional goal, supervise your class while you do a peer observation in another class, film you for part or all of a lesson for the purpose of a self-peer observation (2 required).
Please note the difference between my role and the Professional Growth Plan Observations done by Jim and Mareena. The work I do with you in non-evaluative and is confidential between you and I. The data I collect belongs to you, and you may add it to your portfolio as evidence, or not.  The process begins with a planning conversation, so please go to my calendar and find a time this week, or next week to begin that process.

Updates From Mareena

Staff and Student Bathrooms
A reminder that all adults should use the staff bathrooms. If you’re uncertain about a specific bathroom, let Mareena know so we can update the signs.

Seesaw
If you would like to use Seesaw and have not yet set up your class, please let Mareena know BEFORE you do so. We can add students for you, which will automatically connect them to the other classes they have. This will save us both time!

Let’s Chat
I’ve also added calendar times that are visible to all staff. You’re welcome to come by whenever my door is open! My Nespresso machine is now running - so stop by for a latte! There is a milk frother in the ES office kitchen that is open for others to use. Just make sure you help keep it clean :)
Monday 12-12:30
Tuesday 3-4
Thursday 11:30-12

Electives
It’s time to sign up for Quarter 3 electives! I’ve included the feedback from students about the types of electives they would like on the spreadsheet. Outdoor electives in quarter 3 are not advised as the weather will not consistently allow us to get outside. Remember to adjust your preferred number of students if necessary and to include a location for your elective. These are requests and changes may be needed to accomodate for everyone!
Questions? Come see Mareena
