The TED talk this week is a harrowing and inspiring look at how determination and grit pay off to produce “The best day of my life”.
Thank you
- Cody, for leading the ES through the HOS search process.
- ES Staff, for your input on the ES Division Reflection questions. Your feedback will continue to drive positive change in the ES.
- Bin, Mareena, and Lindsay for organizing and planing the new ES garden space on the 3rd floor. We now have a unique collection of rare and endangered plants native to Jeju!
- Flora, for organizing the ES uniforms and providing the ES staff an opportunity to purchase the new KISJ winter jacket.
Communication in the ES
This week, grade levels discussed the team and personal goals. The discussion revolved around how we can collect data and support each other in achieving these goals. I had the privilege of sitting in on several of these meetings and seeing how supportive and encouraging the ES is.

Professional Growth Plan Observation Instructions
During the month of November Mareena and I will conduct the announced/scheduled classroom observations. The goal of these observations are to provide you with initial data points as you work towards your personal or team goals.
In preparation for this observation please do the following:
Please specify exactly what you would like me to look for/collect data on.
Ensure your goal form (QR) code is posted on your classroom door. This will help guide me during the observation.
Contact Bonnie to schedule a 30-minute block for me or Mareena to come in.
We can't wait to see the amazing things that are happening in your classroom!
Also, here is the Peer Observation slide copy and add to your portfolio. Each person is expected to perform two peer observations each year. One of these observations can be a video observation of yourself.
Updates From Mareena
Quarter 2: Focus on Respect!
November 10th
Please update class blogs with specifics of your class schedule. We will operate with a Thursday schedule. Since dismissal is at 12:30, there will be no electives on this day. Parents have been informed of the school-wide plans. Any specifics for your class should be communicated by HRTs in this week’s update.
PTSC and Family Weekend Feedback
If you have not already filled this out, please provide input on ES conferences and Family Weekend!
Dismissal on December 21st
December 21st is a ½ day for students and teachers are free to leave at 1:30 pm if all responsibilities have been met.
Uniform Update
As the weather begins to cool, students will transition to wearing the winter uniform pieces. Inside the classroom, they should have official uniform pieces. Jackets worn outside of the classroom do not have to be KIS uniform pieces.
New winter jackets are available for parents to purchase. These are optional for this year. Next year’s policy will require students to have only KISJ uniform pieces, including jackets. This information will be sent to parents as they consider purchase options.
Communication in the ES
Your feedback is appreciated as the ES strives to improve communication. As always, submissions are confidential. I have posted the QR code on my office door for continued feedback as the year progresses.
