October 29th to November 2nd

TED Talk of the Week
The TED talk this week is an interesting talk that explores the power of taking time off and how it can change your outlook and strengthen your calling in life.

Thank you
  • Everyone for a successful Family Weekend!  Together we helped parents feel emotionally safe about our school and gave them a much better understanding of how we support students.
  • Bonnie, April, and Matthew Lee, for all your efforts to ensure our ES report cards were sent off without an issue.
  • Theresa for running the suicide prevention training.
  • Angela, Feliz, Esther, Jordanna, Dave, Theresa, Layne, John C, Dan, and Brandon for sharing your expertise during TTT.  It is wonderful to harness the rich experiences of our faculty to improve our practice.
  • Esther for your time and effort in connecting KISJ with the Child Protection Agency and helping to organize the visit.
  • Brandon, Kelly, Layne, Michelle, Sara, Daniel, Audra, Jessica, Jordanna, Kurt, Nicole and Tess for your time with a new platform for communication - Seesaw. Your feedback and time are invaluable as we look for ways to better reach our students and families! Thank you for pioneering this at KISJ ES!
  • Joseph, Bonnie, and April for your tireless efforts to make Family Weekend successful.  We could not have pulled this off without the entire ES team fully engaged!
  • Mareena, for facilitating the Team Building Breakfast social session.  It was fun to learn more about the amazing people in the ES.

Communication in the ES
This week the ES welcomed parents into our classrooms for them to see what a first-class education looks like.  This was also the first time in 3 years that parents were invited into specialist classes. The response from our parent community has been very positive.  The PAB said “Now we understand what makes KISJ different” and “Our students are learning skills that will help them become better readers and writers.” I see this as a major turning point.  Parents are finally beginning to understand that we are using best practice, research-based teaching methods to prepare students for life.

Head Seach Updates
The ES will have time on October 30th and 31st to meet with the two HOS candidates.
Tuesday, October 30th, 4:15: 5:15 in the HS Mini PAC - Mr. Rick Odom
Wednesday, October 31st, 4:15 - 5:15 in the HS Mini PAC - Mr. Shawn Vento
Attendance is open to everyone but is not required. If you cannot attend either of these times, the presentations will be recorded and will be available to view at your convenience.
Each candidate will deliver a 15 min presentation highlighting their qualifications for the Head of School position.  The next 35-45 minutes will be a Q and A session. To ensure equal participation we will limit the questions to those already developed and prioritized.

Jim and Mareena will be out on Monday October 29th
If you have any urgent issues please speak to your TL or email us.
In case of a fire drill, Ryk will be at the front entrance (after clearing 3rd floor). Esther, Sara, and Sarah please wait outside the front entrance to confirm your floor is clear with Ryk before proceeding to the field. Theresa will be at the field with Bonnie and April.
Fill out the discipline form as usual. Contact your grade level counselor if immediate support is needed.
