October 1st to 5th

  • Matt Gratz, for walking us through the process of inventorying classroom libraries.  It was a great look at the many benefits of using Booksource to understand our individual libaries.
  • Shelly, for sharing the data that shows all the hard work our teachers are putting in has paid off!
  • Sarah Ko and Sara, for explaining the Student Support Process and how the ES is supporting our students.
  • Mareena, for creating our new student behavior tracking process.  By collaborating with teachers you have created a system that is easy to use and clearly tracks concerns so they can be addressed early.
  • Esther and Theresa, for running the Parent-Child Communication Workshops on Friday. 
  • Jessica and Student Council, for brightening up our Friday for a great cause!
  • Tessa, for building and organizing an amazing project for the JK students! 


Communication in the ES
This week we had over 500 students, parents, and teachers explore Jeju during Adventure Day.  This was the culmination of months of planning and constant communication between parents and the ES.  The day was a HUGE success with all of us gaining a greater appreciation of Jeju and each other.

Classroom Library Information
For your reference here is the Library Presentation Matt created to walk us through the process.  
As mandated by the Korean business office, we need to have an accurate inventory of our classroom libraries.  Once you have exported your classroom lists put them in this folder using this naming convention: Class name, Room number, teachers, month/year (2D/E207/Perry-10/18).  We ask that all lists are submitted by October 5th.  If you need more time please contact Mareena.
PTSC Information
All students are expected to attend and wear the formal uniform

Grading and PS Instructions and Timelines
Everything you need to know is contained in this presentation. Here are the timelines for Q1.
October 8th - All grades are entered into PS
October 9th - Report card drafts are sent to teachers for a final check
October 10th - Report cards are checked by the Team Leaders for alignment
October 11th - Conference Notes sent to admin
October 12th - PTSC
October 15th - Report cards are emailed to parents
Parent Information Night Feedback
Thank you for giving feedback about Parent Information Night.  We will review this document next year when we begin planning this event next year.  The parent feedback can be found at the bottom of this document.
Parent Teacher Student Conference Information
Here is the Parent-Teacher-Student Conference letter that has been shared with parents.  All conference notes should be completed by October 11th. These notes are found on the ES Faculty/Class List under the students name.

Quarter 1: Focus on Communication!
Fire Drill
Fabulous work getting outside so quickly!
2:15 last class left the main entrance.
3:34 the floor checks confirmed that everyone was outside
6:05 all students were on the field in lines
Please remind students to remain silent once outside. Ask students to sit facing the same way, rather than facing each other.
If there were any questions or concerns that came up regarding procedures, let Mareena know!
Communication grades for Q1 electives should be added to the spreadsheet above by October 4th. Outside instructors grades will be added by this date by the ES office.
Adaptive Schools - October 4th and 5th
Thank you to everyone who has agreed to help out next week, as we have a large amount of cover needed for Adaptive Schools training. Schedule and cover details will be confirmed Monday. I appreciate you being extra patient with us these two days, as people will be helping out in places that might be out of their comfort zone!
Field - Green Beads
Please speak to your students about not eating the green beads on the field.

Duty Schedule - rain
We’ve updated the duty schedule to reflect the change for the morning rain plans. Please check that you’re aware of where to be. The assignments were made based on those that would have recess duty eliminated later in the day due to rain.
Please ensure that your duties are included on your substitute requests. The best way would be to add your weekly duties to the bottom of your emergency plans.

Faculty Bathrooms
Please note that staff should not use student bathrooms in any part of campus. The bathroom by the cafeteria is NOT a staff bathroom. The closest option is on the ground floor of the middle school building. The adult bathrooms inside of the ES are labeled. If you see students entering these, please direct them to the student bathrooms.

Your Leadership Team would like to invite you to decompress after the busy Family Weekend by joining them for pizza and beer following the close of the weekend.  3:15 to 4:15 on the HS rooftop if it rains we will be in the HS Mini Pac
Teacher Appreciation Dinner(s)
This year, in order to address the complications of space and child care, we will be honoring teachers in divisional celebrations instead of a school-wide party.  We hope that this will allow more teachers to plan to be a part of this annual event that is intended to pay tribute to the commitment that teachers at KISJ show every day.
